Forlan 'surprised' by Dudek error

Manchester United‘s Diego Forlan admits he got the shock of his life when Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek committed one of howlers of this or any other season.

The striker took full advantage to score and added a second three minutes later and take the £7.5million buy from Independiente’s tally to five in a United shirt. More importantly he set-up a crucial 2-1 victory at Anfield.

“The goalkeeper was unlucky and I was surprised,” he told MUTV. “I had to be calm. There was just a tiny space to score and I tried to hit the target. Then I started to run.”

The Uruguayan was only in the side as Juan Sebastian Veron was sidelined with flu.

Forlan admitted he changed his mind about releasing Ryan Giggs before getting the second.

“When Giggs gave me the ball, he went to the penalty area. I thought he was offside, so I took a touch more and tried a shot,” he said.

“It is nice to win such an important game and I was happy to score. I know a little about the history of this match but it is hard to feel it when you are playing.

“Liverpool have got a good team but I thought we played well. When you win like this, it is good for your confidence.”

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson had nothing but praise for Forlan. “He keeps trying and the world loves a trier,” said the Old Trafford boss.
