Derry City's Eamon Doherty has been named as Eircom League player of the month for October.

The club captain recently led the Northerners to their first FAI Cup title since 1995.

Meanwhile, a 20-strong consortium of businessmen is expected to take over Drogheda United football club in the coming days after meeting with two club directors last night.
