Cork moved up to second place but will be disappointed with only a point against battling Longford.

City, keen to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat at Shamrock Rovers last week, had the perfect start with the lead goal after just six minutes.

Colin P O'Brien was fouled inside the box by Town defender Avery John and John O'Flynn scored from the spot; his ninth league goal of the season.

O'Flynn then hit the crossbar late in the first half from a Greg O'Halloran cross.

Town staged a comeback in the second half and Brian Byrne levelled on the hour mark after City keeper Michael Devine flapped at an Alan Kirby corner.

Tonight's other eircom League results:

Cobh Ramblers 1 Finn Harps 1

Kilkenny City 1 Galway United 1

Sligo Rovers 0 Monaghan United 2
