Liverpool striker Michael Owen has jumped to the defence of his troubled club and international colleague Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard has found himself on the wrong end of a tongue-lashing by boss Gerard Houllier following Liverpool’s depressing Champions League exit in midweek.
