Fergie mixes youth and experience
Alex Ferguson is ready to turn to his youngsters for tomorrow night’s Worthington Cup tie against Leicester - but the Manchester United boss has promised he will field a strong side against the Foxes.
Ferguson is ready to turn to some of his emerging players who have all tasted first team football this season and is planning a mix of young talent and his experienced stars.
Kieran Richardson, Lee Roche, Paul Tierney, Danny Pugh, Madds Timm and Daniel Nardiello are likely to join forces with some of the regulars including their former youth team colleague John O’Shea who has broken into the senior ranks.
Spanish goalkeeper Ricardo is expected to start his first game at Old Trafford as Fabien Barthez takes a rest and Fergie has hinted he might give Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes a game as they continue their comeback after surgery.
Provisional squad: Ricardo, G Neville, Roche, O’Shea, May, Ferdinand, P Neville, Tierney, Silvestre, Richardson, Scholes, Pugh, Forlan, Fortune, Timm, Nardiello, van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer, Carroll.
