Gough pays tribute to Coyle

"To win the cup two years after the club almost went out of football is a remarkable achievement," said a delighted Derry City goalkeeper Alan Gough following their epic FAI Cup defeat of Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park.

Liam Coyle's goal two minutes into the second half earned the Candystripes their third success in the Blue Riband to the delight of their 4,000 strong travelling support.

"What a goal by Liam," added Gough. "He's a legend and we're all so pleased for him.

"It's also great for David Kelly to win the cup in his last game as a player."

Derry won the midfield battle with skipper Eamonn Doherty outstanding

alongside Ciaran Martyn.

"I'm absolutely delighted," said Sligoman Martyn. "I've being playing League

of Ireland football for five years and it was an honour to play in a Cup

final. To win it was just fantastic.

"I'm delighted for everyone in the squad and especially for all the fans who

were magnificent.

"It was a tough match and full credit to Rovers for making a tight game of

it. It just wasn't to be their day."
