Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of the game against Leeds tomorrow after suffering a hip injury playing for England in midweek.

And it is touch and go whether he will be able to face Spartak Moscow in the Champions League next week.

Emile Heskey is doubtful for both matches after withdrawing from the England squad with a groin injury.

Manager Gerard Houllier told www.liverpoolfc.tv: “We are paying a heavy price for our service to the national sides.

“Steve is definitely out of the Leeds game. I don’t know if he will make the Moscow trip.

“He suffered a blow to the muscle, not a tear or a strain, which is good news.

“He has a clot on the hip and that restricts his movement. It will take a time to disperse.”

England Under 21 goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has suffered a recurrence of a back injury and Houllier admitted: “That is a worry.

“We will have to get to the bottom of it because we don’t want his career disrupted in this way.”
