Roeder gives youth a chance
West Ham manager Glenn Roeder today named England Under-19 defender Glen Johnson and Trinidad and Tobago-born midfield prospect Brent Rahim in his squad to visit Chesterfield in the Worthington Cup second round tomorrow.
Johnson only celebrated his 18th birthday in August while Rahim impressed with a 30-yard goal for the reserves in the 2-1 defeat by Leicester last week.
French striker Frederic Kanoute is definitely out after suffering a groin injury in the fourth minute of West Ham’s first victory of the season at Chelsea on Saturday. Roeder has also included third-string goalkeeper David Forde, recently recovered from injury, in his squad.
