Leeds make lively start to second half
Leeds 1 Manchester United 0
Venables made a double substitution at the break with Eirik Bakke on for Nick Barmby, forced out with a back problem, while Lucas Radebe replaced Dominic Matteo at the back due to a recurrence of the Leeds captain's knee injury.
Leeds at least made a lively start to the second half, with Bowyer curling a rasping 20-yarder just wide of Barthezâs right-hand post, but it was again United who had the best of the early opportunities.
Van Nistelrooy first robbed Bowyer and then powered his way past the challenge of Woodgate before driving in a low, angled shot which Robinson brilliantly tipped away before Radebe mopped up.
Soon after, Winter was forced to issue his first booking of the game following a late Smith tackle on Silvestre, the 21-year-old seeing yellow for the second straight occasion after a prior 15-match clean run.
