A man was shot and four others injured after a clash between fans at a club match which was eventually abandoned in Argentina today.

Fans from Lanus fought with police before the match with local rivals Banfield, and then tore out perimeter fencing once the match had begun.

A total of five people were treated for injuries, including one with a bullet wound.

The match was abandoned after 24 minutes by referee Roberto Ruscio with the score still 0-0.

“I stopped the match twice to see if everything got calm, but finally I had to suspend it,” referee Ruscio said. “The players were in danger,” he added.
