Diouf makes home debut
New striker El Hadji Diouf was given his home league debut in a three-man Liverpool front line which included Emile Heskey, left on the bench in last weekend’s 1-0 opening day victory at Aston Villa.
Stephane Henchoz, who suffered a groin injury in Switzerland’s midweek win over Austria, had recovered to play while Dietmar Hamann - who missed Germany’s match on Wednesday with an ankle problem - was also fit.
Boss Gerard Houllier had moaned beforehand that John Arne Riise had been overused by Norway, playing the full 90 minutes, and that looks to have cost him his place in the side - he started on the bench alongside Bruno Cheyrou, who won his first French cap in Tunisia on Wednesday.
Southampton goalkeeper Paul Jones - blamed for the Croatia goal which cost Wales victory in Varazdin in midweek - plays knowing new Antti Niemi is waiting in the wings.
Saints were without the injured Jason Dodd - Paul Telfer coming into an otherwise unchanged side from the one which drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough last weekend.
