Portsmouth have approached Middlesbrough with a view to signing veteran Italian defender Gianluca Festa.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is believed to be keen to take the former 33-year-old Cagliari and Inter Milan centre-back to Fratton Park.

A Boro spokesman told the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette: "We are aware of Portsmouth’s interest, though nothing has been agreed at this stage."

Meanwhile former Rangers full-back Tony Vidmar is training with Boro. The Australia international was released by the Glasgow club in the summer, and Boro insist they are just "assisting with his pre-season training".
