Hamburg defeat Man City

Hamburg 1, Man City 0 (result)

Kevin Keegan saw his Manchester City side beaten by a single Tomas Ujfalusi goal on his return to German club Hamburg.

Keegan, twice voted European Player of the Year during his playing days with Hamburg in the 1980s, when he also won a Bundesliga title with the club, fielded a strong City side in front of just under 34,000 supporters - 4,000 of them City fans - at the AOL Arena.

France striker Nicolas Anelka and former Newcastle defender Sylvain Distin were the most impressive performers for the Barclaycard Premiership newcomers.

But Hamburg’s Czech international midfielder Ujfalusi took advantage of a defensive mix-up in the visitors rearguard in the 58th minute to score the only goal of the game after a Christian Rahn corner - and spoil Keegan’s emotional return.
