United deny Veron injury rumours

Manchester United have quashed fears midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron could miss the start of the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

United insist the Argentina World Cup player will not go under the knife and has instead flown to Bournemouth to continue with pre-season preparations.

He is expected to take part against the Cherries in today’s testimonial for former boss Mel Machin.

United’s director of communications Paddy Haverson said: ‘‘Juan Sebastian Veron is in the squad to play Bournemouth today and it is highly unlikely that we would risk him if he were facing an operation.

‘‘There has been no talk at Manchester United of Seba facing an operation.’’
