Rustu rules out Everton move

Everton’s hopes of landing Turkish goalkeeper Rustu Recber have been dashed after the World Cup star ruled out a move from Fenerbahce.

The 29-year-old attracted summer interest from a number of Barclaycard Premiership clubs, but Everton manager David Moyes had made him a definite target after his impressive performances in the Far East.

But Recber has been persuaded to stay on in Turkey by both Fenerbahce and his wife, who is happy in Istanbul.

Recber’s agent Ergan Sancakli said: ‘‘He has decided to stay where he is.

‘‘The president of Fenerbahce has told him that he really wants him to stay and his wife has also told him to stay put.

‘‘He has one year left on his contract and he is going to see that out at Fenerbahce.

‘‘He did have offers and we have heard of the interest, but nothing will be happening until next year.’’

Moyes will now return to his pursuit of Derby’s Mart Poom, for whom he has already had a bid rejected with the Rams determined potential buyers meet their valuation for the Estonia international.

‘‘It’s no secret that we’re going to have to sell one of our players, but we do have valuations of those players,’’ a Derby spokesman told the official Everton website, www.evertonfc.tv.

‘‘They will not go anywhere unless those valuations are met.’’
