Saints receive contact from AWOL Delgado
Southampton have finally received a fax from AWOL Ecuador striker Agustin Delgado.
The 27-year-old, who played in the World Cup for his country, has been fined two weeks’ wages by the Saints for missing the start of pre-season training.
He has reportedly been receiving treatment on an injury to his left knee in Guayaquil, Ecuador and insists he wants to return to his Premiership club when his rehabilitation is complete.
Southampton club secretary Brian Truscott told the club’s official website www.saintsfc.co.uk: ‘‘We have had a two-page letter from him giving his reasons for failing to report back along with an update on his knee which is being considered.’’
Delgado played only two matches for the Saints following his move from Mexican club Necaxa, but played every minute of Ecuador’s World Cup finals campaign.
The club are eager for him to continue his treatment in England with a view to having him fit for the start of the new season.
