Spurs star admits Schalke interest

Tottenham’s Norwegian midfielder Oyvind Leonhardsen has admitted he would interested in a move to Schalke, but denied having any contact with the German side.

The 31-year-old has admits he is eager to leave the London club after three years, and it was reported Schalke are prepared to pay £1.7m (€2.65m) for the midfielder.

However, Leonhardsen has heard nothing of Schalke’s interest and believes the fee is well above what Spurs would demand.

‘‘I haven’t heard anything about this. Obviously it would have been interesting but I think the amount sounds a bit high,’’ Leonhardsen told newspaper VG.

‘‘I can’t think that they (Tottenham) would ask for so much. The club has said it would help if something good turned up, but it’s just not that simple anymore with the economic situation which is guiding European football.’’
