Rio won't get pay rise, says Tel

Rio Ferdinand will not be offered more money to stay at Leeds United.

The England defender is a target for Manchester United, but both Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale and new manager Terry Venables want him to stay at Elland Road.

Leeds have to raise €23m to balance their books having failed to qualify for the Champions League.

But even though selling 23-year-old Ferdinand is not part of the plan, Ridsdale has insisted the player will not be offered any additional financial incentives to stay.

"Rio is very well paid already," Ridsdale told The Sun. "A new contract would not come into it when we sit down and talk to him on his return from holiday."
