Venables can bring silverware: Mills

Danny Mills believes new Leeds boss Terry Venables can bring some long-awaited silverware to Elland Road.

Venables cut short a family holiday to take up the manager's post and was set to meet the players before being officially introduced to the media.

And Mills is in no doubt the man who guided England to the semi-finals of Euro 96 can enjoy a successful spell in West Yorkshire.

The England defender said: "The appointment of Terry Venables has, at last, brought to an end all the speculation surrounding the managerial position at Elland Road.

"Being an ex-England coach he's certainly coming to a club where there is a high calibre of international players to work with and I'm sure he'll be looking to bring some much overdue silverware which our loyal fan base certainly deserve.

"We've all read the speculation that there could be more changes before the season begins, yet if we can keep hold of our best players I believe we have the capability to challenge in the Premiership and on the European stage.

"The fact that we've emerged as one of the top five sides in the country these past couple of seasons and have reached a Champions' League semi-final says to me that we are still moving in the right direction and I'm certain Mr Venables would echo those sentiments."
