Kildare make impressive start to campaign

Kildare County 2 (Gorman 12, Zellor 90) Limerick 0

Kildare County kicked off its first ever season as an Eircom League club with an impressive win over Limerick in Newbridge last night.

Headed goals from Philip Gorman and Shay Zellor at either end of the match, were enough

to see Dermot Keely's side to victory.

The game started brightly for Kildare with the home players creating a number of good chances in the opening stages.

And there wasn't long to wait for the first goal. After just 12 minutes Zellor crossed deep from the right wing, Gavin Doyle headed back across the face of the goal for Gorman to head home past Mike Heath's outstretched right hand.

As the game went on Kildare were content to sit on their lead and not commit too many players in to the last third of the pitch.

But as Limerick pushed forward in the closing stages, holes were left at the back and Shay Zellor

rose unopposed to get on the end of a John Ryan cross from the right and it was all over.
