Dundee sack Bonetti

Dundee today sacked manager Ivano Bonetti, ending speculation about the Italian’s future at the Scottish Premier League club.

Chief executive Peter Marr made the announcement after holding talks with Bonetti.

The move ends months of speculation over the Italian’s future following poor results last season during which he spent an increasing amount of time away from the club, including on honeymoon.

Dundee plunged deeper into crisis as the controversial Bonetti and his brother Dario were dismissed from Dens Park.

The management duo had been in talks with Marr for two hours before emerging tight-lipped from the stadium.

However, they seemed to think that discussions would continue tomorrow before any final decision would be made on their future.

Ivano Bonetti said: ‘‘We still have lots to sort out but we will keep talking.

‘‘I am not sure if it is working and we will find out more tomorrow when we have a press conference at 2pm.’’

Despite Bonetti’s insistence that he was still in charge at Dens Park, Marr confirmed that he had terminated his management team’s contract with immediate effect.

Marr emerged from the stadium and said: ‘‘After talks with the Bonettis, and the management team, it has been mutually decided to terminate their contract.’’
