Scan for Hargreaves

England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is to undergo a scan tomorrow after injuring a leg in Friday’s victory over Argentina.

The Bayern Munich player has already had a precautionary x-ray which revealed he had not suffered a fracture.

But the leg has swollen up and now he will have a scan to assess the extent of any muscle damage.

Hargreaves suffered the injury early in England’s 1-0 victory in the Sapporo Dome after an accidental collision with Michael Owen.

Football Association head of communications Paul Newman confirmed: ‘‘Owen will have a precautionary scan on Monday to assess the extent of any muscle damage to his leg injury.’’

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is already resigned to being without Hargreaves for Wednesday’s vital clash with Nigeria in Osaka.
