Paolo Maldini’s father Cesare, the Paraguay boss, is the oldest coach at this World Cup aged 70, while Paolo is one of the few players at the tournament who also played in Italia 90.

Others include Niall Quinn and Steve Staunton of the Republic of Ireland, and Robert Prosinecki, who is the only player to have scored at the finals for two different countries: Yugoslavia in 1990 and Croatia in 1998.
