Sven-Goran Eriksson today tried to play down talk of revenge being a motivational weapon ahead of England’s latest World Cup confrontation with Argentina and insisted it was ‘‘a normal football game.’’

Several players, including David Seaman and Sol Campbell, have already talked of wanting to pay back the Argentinians for their insulting behaviour towards the England players after the second phase match during France ’98 in St Etienne.
