Nico Van Kerckhoven injured his left leg during training and joins fellow defender Glen De Boeck as a doubtful starter for Belgium's World Cup match against Japan.

Van Kerckhoven felt a sudden pain during shooting practice and doctors said he might have sustained a small muscle tear in his leg.

Doctors are expected to scan his leg early on Monday for a definite assessment.

De Boeck resumed training on Sunday but still felt a stinging pain in his right ankle. But he was more hopeful of making Belgium's starting line-up on Tuesday.
