Rijkaard quits as coach of Sparta

Frank Rijkaard has resigned as the coach of Sparta Rotterdam, five days after the club was relegated to the Second Division.

Sparta said in a statement posted on their website that it will respect Rijkaard's decision, although he has a contract until next year.

The club didn't say if the decision had something to do with the threatening letter and bullet Rijkaard received in the mail a week ago.

The writer of the letter said Rijkaard had to step down as Sparta coach or otherwise be killed.
