Goals in each half saw Nigeria end Ireland’s two-year unbeaten home record in their last friendly before both teams go to the World Cup.

Julius Aghahowa put the African Nations Cup semi-finalists in front after 12 minutes and Efe Sodje made it two within two minutes of the re-start.

Stephen Reid, only in Mick McCarthy’s World Cup squad as a result of an injury to Mark Kennedy, came on as a substitute and pulled one back in the 67th minute.
