McLeish refuses to rest on laurels
Rangers manager Alex McLeish has vowed to stay focused as he prepares to sign a new contract at Ibrox.
Chairman David Murray announced yesterday that he would soon sit down with him to discuss a new agreement, which will replace his current 18-month deal.
And the former Hibernian boss, who led his side to the Tennent’s Scottish Cup by beating Celtic on Saturday, is overjoyed with the news.
McLeish said: ‘‘I was happy to join Rangers of course and I was happy with the contract and the term.
‘‘I knew it would drive me and motivate me to earn a new one. If the chairman has said this might be the case then obviously I am delighted.
‘‘I love the club, I love the people that employ me and those I work with. The important thing is that I keep on earning and justifying it and that I stay driven.
‘‘It’s nice to look back and reflect on the two cup wins. But the expectation levels are very high and I know the players and myself can’t rest on our laurels.
‘‘Andy Watson and Jan Wouters have been instrumental in this success as well,’’ he told the Scottish Daily Mail.
