Soccer: Keane becomes a doctor
Roy Keane is to be made an honorary doctor at a ceremony in his home city of Cork next month.
The Manchester United midfielder will be made an honorary doctor of law at University College Cork on May 10.
Keane, the Republic of Ireland captain, is currently facing a race to regain full fitness for this summer’s World Cup after sustaining a hamstring injury in United’s Champions League quarter-final against Deportivo La Caruna.
Republic manager Mick McCarthy said: ‘‘Roy is one of the fittest guys in the Premiership and I’m confident he will be okay for the World Cup.’’
