Soccer: Blades seek Montgomery extension
Sheffield United have opened contract talks with youngster Nick Montgomery as they look to secure his future at Bramall Lane.
Michael Tonge and Phil Jagielka have already been tied up on long-term deals and the Blades hope midfielder Montgomery will now follow suit.
A new deal will commit him to the First Division club until 2005, while United are also in talks with young Irish defender Colin Cryan.
Boss Neil Warnock told the club’s official website, www.sufc.co.uk: ‘‘I’m talking to Nick about extending his terms for another year to give him three in total.
‘‘Nick is very much part of the squad. I’m also talking to a couple of other youngsters, including Colin.
‘‘It’s all part of our policy of topping up the youngsters’ contracts as we go along and rewarding them for the progress made.’’
