Champions League: Liverpool dumped out of Europe

Bay Leverkusen 4, Liverpool 2 (4-3 agg latest)

Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League tonight on a dramatic night in Leverkusen with Brazilian defender Lucio grabbing the all-important goal six minutes from time.

It was a devastating blow for Liverpool, who had seemed to have secured their passage on the away goals rule when Jari Litmanen scored in the 79th minute.

Litmanen seemed to throw Liverpool a lifeline in the 79th minute when he skipped away from Placente before finishing clinically.

This astonishing match delivered another twist in the 84th minute - and a bitter one for Liverpool when Lucio fired a shot through Dudek’s legs and into the corner to clinch victory for Leverkusen.
