Soccer: Griffiths may have to quit
Luton striker Carl Griffiths faces a make-or-break operation on a career-threatening shin injury this week.
The 30-year-old forward scored seven goals for the Hatters this season before suffering a stress fracture and has not played since facing his old club Leyton Orient back in September.
And after a series of setbacks he could face the prospect of ending his career prematurely if the surgery is unsuccessful.
Manager Joe Kinnear said: ‘‘The injury was much worse than we first thought and he’s seeing his fourth specialist.
‘‘This one specialises in leg reconstruction and he needs to have an operation.
‘‘He is very distraught and there is a squeak of a chance he may have to retire. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come to that, but it could be a possibility.’’
