Premiership: Burley blasts 'terrible' Ipswich

George Burley blasted Ipswich's defence after they conceded four weak first half goals in the crunch relegation encounter at Bolton.

Fredi Bobic scored after one minute and went on to complete a hat-trick, which was then enhanced by Youri Djorkaeff's strike. Jamie Clapham's last minute goal counted for little.

"It was a big game for both clubs and we knew we probably needed a victory to push out of the bottom three, but it started going wrong after about a minute," said Burley.

"At the end of the day we've made terrible errors and if you look at the four goals, Bolton haven't had to work hard to score any of them.

"If you defend and play like that in the first half starting from the first minute you're going to lose the game.

"We didn't cave in and we came out and played in the second half but by then the game was lost."

Burley must now lift his side for a run-in which includes matches against Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

But he added: "Our performance against Chelsea proves we can play against the big teams in the Premiership. But if we keep making mistakes like we did today then we're going to be punished."
