Premiership: Newcastle keep pressure on top three

Newcastle enhanced their chances of a Champions League place next season with a thrilling 6-2 win over Everton at St James Park.

Duncan Ferguson put the Merseysiders into an early lead but Alan Shearer and Carl Cort turned it around for the Magpies before Niclas Alexandersson made it 2-2 at half time.

Newcastle ran riot in the second period with Andy O'Brien, a Nol Solano brace and Olivier Bernard sealing a win which puts them within four points of third placed Arsenal. Everton's defeat, their first under new manager David Moyes, leaves them trapped among the relegation contenders.
