Premiership: Barthez sets sights on rally driving

Fabien Barthez has revealed he is eyeing a career away from football when he hangs up his gloves - as a professional rally car driver.

Barthez has won just about every major honour football has to offer but the United goalkeeper would love to add more success to his sporting career by taking part in the Monte Carlo Rally.

Car fanatic Barthez admits to being rallying crazy but revelations that he has already taken a ride on part of the Monte Carlo course may not have gone down too well with Sir Alex .

"When I was in Monaco I was very friendly with Gilles Panizzi and he took me round the course in his car. That was really exciting, and very fast.

"Rallying is my passion. I love rallying and anything to do with cars."

And when asked whether or not he would fancy his chances behind the wheel when he finally hangs up his goalkeeping gloves, the French World Cup winner added: "Maybe. I absolutely love cars and anything to do with them. So to become a professional driver would be a dream come true. We’ll have to see."
