Soccer: Rovers chase Turkish defender

Blackburn are hoping to sign Turkey international defender Hakan Unsal from manager Graeme Souness’ former club Galatasaray.

Unsal is seen as the ideal player to solve Rovers’ left-sided defensive problem and is set to be given a trial and undergo a medical this week.

The Worthington Cup finalists have been looking to strengthen their left side for several months, the being highlighted by Stig Bjornebye’s abash with Middlesbrough due to a virus.

Rovers chief executive John Williams said: ‘‘We have entered into a dialogue with Hakan Unsal and his representatives, but there is much to be sorted out.

‘‘He is a player Graeme knows, he is also an international colleague and personal friend of Tugay. We are working towards bringing him to Ewood Park.’’
