Footballer Danny Cadamarteri has been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

It follows the Everton striker's trial last year over the assault of 25-year-old lap dancer Joeline Joel in Liverpool city centre.

He voluntarily attended a Liverpool police station.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "We have charged 22-year-old Danny Cadamarteri, of Liverpool, with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice."

The player, who rarely plays for Everton's first team and is expected to be released from the club in the summer, will appear before magistrates in Liverpool on Wednesday.
