Nationwide: City not signing Clarke twins

Manchester City have stalled on a decision to sign twins Chris and Matt Clarke from the Third Division’s bottom club Halifax Town.

The Leeds-born 21-year-olds were invited to the First Division leaders’ Carrington training headquarters last week for a trial.

But while continuing to monitor their progress over the coming months, City have decided against snapping up the signatures of the 6ft 3in striker and defender just yet.

Halifax chairman Bob Walker believes City could be beaten to the punch if they wait too long on offering them permanent deals.

He said: ‘‘I’m sure that they will get snapped up by a bigger club in the not too distant future.’’
