African Nations Cup: Host nation Mali reach last four
Host nation Mali reached the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup with a 2-0 victory over South Africa.
Bassala Toure opened the scoring on the hour, running down the left and beating South Africa goalkeeper Hans Vonk on his near post.
Dramine Coulibaly netted the second in injury-time to start an ecstatic pitch invasion of over 20,000 fans.
Delron Buckley had the best chance for South Africa with quarter of an hour remaining but his shot was cleared off the line as Mali resorted to last-gasp defending.
In the 53rd minute, Seydou Keita nearly broke the deadlock for Mali, but his free kick was stopped by Vonk.
Three minutes later, Bradley Carnell's shot was saved by Mahamadou Sidibe.
