Scottish soccer: Gould to stay at Parkhead
Celtic goalkeeper Jonathan Gould insists he is happy to stay at Parkhead to fight for a first-team place.
The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order earlier this season with number one Robert Douglas and Dimitri Kharine ahead of him.
Gould considered moving or even retirement, but he is now back in the first-team picture with Russian Kharine sidelined through injury.
The former Coventry star is now happy to battle with Douglas for pole position and is ready to step into the side if called upon by Martin O’Neill.
Gould said: ‘‘I would obviously like to be playing a few more games, but Rab has been in good form.
‘‘He has been consistent and kept a lot of clean sheets, but I’m quite happy to sit and watch him do his job and then if I’m needed I can go in and help the team.
‘‘It was a great year for us last season and it can be the same again this year if we can keep going, keep picking up the right results and keep playing well.’’
