Rovers raced into a 2-0 lead by 21 minutes. A bizarre own goal gifted them the lead on eight minuts when Town skipper Wes Byrne headed a Billy Woods cross into his own net.

Tony Grant added Rovers second goal when firing home after a Sean Francis shot was blocked.

Eric Lavine got Town back into the match on 34 minutes when running onto Vinny Perth's through ball to round Tony O'Dowd and shoot home.

Grant then restored Rovers' two goal lead on 68 minute when lobbing home.

Billy Woods added the fourth on 69 minutes before substitute Tony Cousins got in on the act to add the fifth two minutes from time.

Meanwhile, in the First Division Drogheda Utd defeated Cobh Ramblers by three goals to one.
