FA Cup: Gascoigne masterminds Everton's progress

Everton 4, Leyton Orient 1(full-time)

Paul Gascoigne masterminded Everton’s progress into the last 16 of the FA Cup by making three goals against brave Leyton Orient.

A flying own goal by David McGhee set Everton on their way and, although Scott Canham grabbed one for the Third Division side in the first half, former England midfielder Gascoigne made two goals for Kevin Campbell and one for Duncan Ferguson.

Watts got on the end of a long free-kick for a flicked header which forced Simonsen into action again with 16 minutes left.

Campbell, on the turn after a Gemmill pass, cracked a shot just over before Aaron McLean came on for Orient in place of Watts after 76 minutes.

Three minutes later Gascoigne ran 40 yards, beating four defenders in a stunning run before brilliantly slipping the ball through a tiny gap for Campbell to clinically knock in the fourth goal.
