Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in taking Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink back to the Spanish capital.

The Dutchman left Atletico for Stamford Bridge after failing to save them from relegation from the top flight two seasons ago.

However they are now leading the Segunda Division and would like to see him leading playing again in the Spanish top-flight.

"Jimmy is a top-drawer player and the fans love him," general manager Paulo Futre told the Daily Star.

"But there might be a problem financing the deal. However, we are doing the best we can."

Atletico chairman Jesus Gil added: "Jimmy has told me repeatedly that he wants to come back."
