St Patrick’s Athletic have been rewarded a reprieve as the independent arbitrator Liam Reidy ordered that the nine points deducted over the Paul Marnay affair be returned with immediate effect.

However, the club was ordered to pay the fine of €1200 for failure to register the player correctly.

Marnay took part in three games earlier in the season during which he was not registered for St Pats.

The arbitrator concluded that a postal error was to blame and therefore the severity of the original sanction should be reduced.
