Soccer: Argentina friendly talks back on
The Republic of Ireland could face Argentina on April 17 in a friendly after talks between the FAI and their South American counterparts recommenced.
The match was originally scheduled last month but talks halted after the former World Cup winners refused to lower their appearance fee.
However, both sides have started negotiations again and FAI press officer Brendan McKenna is hopeful that the game will go ahead.
"It's still not confirmed. We are still talking with the Argentines and the USA, but nothing will be agreed until next week, when FAI general secretary, Brendan Menton returns," said Mr McKenna.
Mick McCarthy said he was looking forward to the prospect of playing the talented South Americans, regarded by pundits as one of the favourites to lift the World Cup in the summer.
Meanwhile, Ireland will travel to Middlesbrough on May 14 to take on Sunderland in Niall Quinn's testimonial match. Quinn will retire from international football after the World Cup.
