Premiership: Henry rage out of character, claims former coach

Thierry Henry's former coach Christian Damiano says he is shocked that the striker lost his temper against Newcastle.

Thierry Henry's former coach Christian Damiano says he is shocked that the striker lost his temper against Newcastle.

Henry had to be restrained as he confronted referee Graham Poll at the end of the 3-1 defeat.

Now the FA look set to take action against the player.

But Damiano, who coached Henry from the age of 13 at the French National Academy at Clairfontaine, says the incident was out of character.

Damiano, now Fulham's assistant manager, said: "I was surprised at his attitude because he's a good boy and intelligent. I'm close to him and will speak to him about it.

"It was a big game for Arsenal and, if they had won, they would have been close to Liverpool.

"I had a good relationship with him and it is important that we're still in contact. He was captain of my team and a good example.

"It was fantastic for the future when I had a player like him. He's reached the French national team and perhaps could become captain.

"I have friendly discussions with him now, but I don't want to interfere with him because he has his own manager at Arsenal."
