Soccer: Woodgate should never play for England - Greaves
Leeds should sack Jonathan Woodgate and he should never play for England again following his conviction for affray, according to former Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves.
Woodgate was yesterday sentenced to 100 hours community service at Hull Crown Court for his part in the incident which saw Asian student Sarfraz Najeib beaten up in street attack.
Leeds United are standing by the player but would have dismissed him if he had been found guilty of the more serious charge of grievous bodily harm.
Greaves said Leeds should set an example for every player in the country and get rid of the player. “Leeds could and should punish him further.
It will show every young player they simply cannot do as they please,” said Greaves, adding, “For too long too many footballers have believed and acted as if they are above the law”.
Greaves went on to say that England should go one further and tell Woodgate he will never wear the England shirt again.
