Nationwide League: Evans ready to fly Robins' nest
New Swindon owner Willie Carson has admitted he is struggling to persuade director of football Roy Evans to stay with the club.
Evans, the former Liverpool boss, has promised to make his position clear to the former champion jockey in a meeting to be held within the next 24 hours.
However, Carson has reiterated that the Robins’ finances will put strict limits on the money being made available to sign players, with Evans waiting to see how much will be freed up before deciding his future.
He told a British newspaper: ‘‘We are doing our best to persuade Roy to stay but we are not rich people here.
‘‘Roy’s future is in his hands and we hope he will decide to stay.’’
Evans added: ‘‘When I came here under the former board I was told money would be available in the new year.
‘‘I have to get hold of cash to freshen things up here. It’s absolutely imperative. I have a meeting with the new chairman and board in midweek.
‘‘I’ll only be able to make a decision after I have spoken to them to see what cards are on the table.
‘‘But I hope that I will make up my mind very quickly. It’s in nobody’s interest for there to be any uncertainty.’’
