Premiership: Baros anxious for Liverpool move

Liverpool-bound Czech striker Milan Baros hopes to find out this week how soon he’ll be able to complete his move to the Premiership.

Liverpool-bound Czech striker Milan Baros hopes to find out this week how soon he’ll be able to complete his move to the Premiership.

Liverpool signed the 20-year-old Banik Ostrava striker in August for £3.4m but have yet to receive a work permit.

Players from outside the European Community need to have played in 75% of their national team’s matches over the previous two years, and he does not meet that criteria.

The Anfield club finally applied for a work permit last week in the hope that they could persuade the authorities he qualifies as a young player of immense potential, having figured in the Czechs’ last six matches.

‘‘I have been very interested in English football since I was a small boy,’’ said Baros.

‘‘I like the stadiums, the style of play, the contact with the spectators, so I am looking forward to be in England as soon as possible.’’

Baros, who has scored four times in eight internationals, is aware of the huge competition for striking berths on Merseyside.

‘‘I know that Robbie Fowler has gone to Leeds so I have a bigger chance but there is still great competition for places at Liverpool.

‘‘I was talking about it with Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger when I played for our National Team.’’

Baros is anxious to move to England.

‘‘Liverpool are waiting for me but I still do not know when I will play there,’’ said Baros.

‘‘I need a work permit and my agent is working very hard on that at this time.

‘‘Everything should be known this week but it is still possible that I will start the winter preparation with Banik Ostrava.

‘‘I will have a break now, only one week because I do not want to come to the Premiership in poor physical condition.

‘‘When everything is sorted out I will go to England with my girlfriend.’’
