Champions League: Totti could miss Reds clash

Roma striker Francesco Totti is a doubt for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Liverpool because of an ankle injury.

Roma striker Francesco Totti is a doubt for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Liverpool because of an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old Italian international has been forced to watch training from the sidelines after getting hurt in training on Monday.

Both sides will be looking for a positive outcome after dropping points in their opening Group B encounters.

The Romans were held to a draw away to Galatasaray, while Liverpool were soundly beaten by Barcelona at Anfield.

Roma will also be out for revenge because the Reds knocked the Italian champions out of last season’s UEFA Cup en route to winning the trophy.

Seventeen years ago Joe Fagan’s Liverpool beat Roma on their own doorstep to claim the European Cup.

Giallorossi President Francesco Sensi said: ‘‘This match seems to be our European derby.

‘‘It was the final of the European Cup years ago, and then we had our UEFA Cup matches last year.

‘‘I just hope we get the fortune that has been avoiding us in the last two encounters.’’

Brazilian defender Cafu is definitely out of the game after failing to recover from the knee injury which kept him out of the weekend clash with Venezia.
